WHAT WE BELIEVE
What do we believe? In many ways we are a typical American Baptist church which reflects the values of conservative Indiana.
We believe in God as expressed through the three persons of the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the Three in One.
We believe the Bible is the authoritative Word of God. It is preached, taught, and is the focus of what we know and believe about God-past, present and future.
We regularly practice the two rites of the church: baptism and communion.
We believe baptism is an outward expression of an inward experience and communion is symbolic of a new life in Christ while it reminds us of His atoning sacrifice.
We believe that all mankind was born into sin and thus are in need of saving grace. We believe there is a literal Heaven and Hell. Those who die in their sins will spend eternity damned and separated from God. Those who invite Jesus to come into their heart and receive him as Savior will find a new sense of joy, meaning and purpose for their life and will spend eternity enjoying the glory and majesty of Heaven.
We are evangelical in nature and believe God has called us to grow both spiritually and numerically.
We believe the First Baptist church is called to be a saving light. In response to the gospel we must represent the cause of Christ in Martinsville, America, and all around the world. We have a global emphasis on missions while maintaining a strong mission support in our own community.
Our people are called to be co-ministers of Christ who joyfully receive the mantle of leadership while the pastors preach, teach and equip our congregation to serve Christ as capable stewards.
We are strongly identified as an American Baptist congregation with rich history and diverse people representing our constituency. Yet we are open to ecumenical co-operation in our service to God and mankind.
The First Baptist Church is growing and moving forward as we follow the guidance and leadership of God.
